A gentle pre-wash scalp exfoliant designed to loosen compacted flakes, dissolve excess sebum, and clear product build up from around follicles. By reducing this load, it helps normalise the scalp micro-environment, which can otherwise favour microbial shifts linked with itch, irritation and flaking. Many people also notice less greasiness between washes due to the removal of excess sebum and hair that sits better at the roots.

Formulation

This pre-wash treatment uses low-strength salicylic acid, papaya fruit enzymes and peppermint-derived menthol. Salicylic acid helps break apart dead skin cells and soften adherent scale. Enzymes support surface renewal without physical abrasion. Menthol provides temporary cooling. By reducing excess sebum and residue, the formula can make the scalp less hospitable to overgrowth of yeast and bacteria that thrive in occlusive, oily conditions.

Who this suits

Best for scalps that feel greasy quickly, show mild flaking, or accumulate residue from creams, gels, oils or heavy conditioners. Useful if shampoo alone never quite feels like it reaches the scalp, or if roots look flat and coated within a day or two of washing.

Who should avoid it

Potentially too stimulating for very fragile or highly reactive scalps unless guided clinically. Not a replacement for medicated products in conditions such as seborrhoeic dermatitis or psoriasis. Anyone sensitive to acids, menthol or fragrance should patch test first.

How to use it properly

Apply to a dry scalp before washing. Section the hair, apply a small amount directly to areas with build up or oiliness, and massage gently. Leave on for around 15 minutes, then rinse and follow with shampoo and conditioner. Start once weekly and adjust based on how your scalp responds.

Verdict

This is not a treatment for underlying scalp disease, but it is a solid pre-wash step for reducing build up, balancing surface oil and supporting a healthier scalp environment. By breaking down residue before shampooing, it helps your cleansing products and scalp serums work more effectively and can ease that cycle of itch, grease and constant re-washing.
